Criminal justice careers can range from law enforcement, to working in a legal setting such as a courtroom or law office. The median national salary for police officers is $62,000. Further, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that there are approximately 112,200 detectives and criminal investigators employed in the USA. However, salary depends on location and which agency you work for, as well as the number of years of service.

Students may complete an internship at a law firm, working under the supervision of an experienced attorney. Pursuing a course in paralegal training may give you an advantage in job recruiting after graduation. Check with the legal department for degree requirements. A criminal history check is part of most thorough legal reviews, and may include a summary of your employment history, a neighborhood survey, and a home visit. Ranked as one of the best jobs in America by CNN, job opportunities in the paralegal field are plentiful, due to rising legal fees, and the fact that more clients are demanding the use of paralegals.

Online Courses - MOOCs

APSU paralegal training
There are almost 7,000 accredited colleges and universities in the United States, which enroll 15 million students, and award 2 million bachelors degrees every year. If you remain true to your career interests, not just going after salary, your overall job earnings will increase as you gain experience. However, if your focus is more on salary alone, there's a higher risk that you'll suffer early signs of burnout, and be forced to change careers later on.

Technical training programs are a low-cost alternative to attending a regular four-year college, and still you may earn good money as a highly-skilled, technical specialist. By taking some of your required degree courses online, you may be able to graduate earlier, thus saving money on tuition. If you're currently employed, you can take online courses in your spare time to advance your career. Massive Open Online Courses are known as MOOCs, utilizing cloud-based software, interactive platforms such as Blackboard, and mobile apps.

An online degree may be just as marketable as a college degree that was earned on campus. Udemy online learning is a new startup with backing from the founders of Groupon. Similarly, Khan Academy now offers over 4,000 micro-lectures served through YouTube. Coursera, a competing software platform, has millions of enrolled students from around the world. Recently, MIT announced that it's open courseware platform will be available to students and instructors at no cost.

Professor Abu Al-Rub and his engineering design team built a computer model that can generate thousands of geometric arrangements for a given material. Each design gives rise to a different set of thermal, electrical and mechanical properties solely through implementing a different geometry. More importantly, the model can be directed to find the arrangement that maximizes certain properties to fit a desired application.
